Volvo has been working hard to move toward total vehicle electrification for decades. And now, we've made a promise that Volvo will become a fully electric car company by 2030.

The Road to Electrification

Since 2019, all new Volvo models are now being produced with a hybrid or fully-electric option. And in 2021, Volvo launched five pure electric models (including the XC-40) to do our part in our commitment to move toward lowering emissions. At the current rate, nearly 50% of all Volvo cars produced and sold will be electric by 2025. In order to keep with our promise and become an electric-only car maker by 2030, Volvo will be removing any cars with internal combustion engines (including hybrids) from our car lineup by the end of the decade.

Online-Only Vehicle Distribution

Volvo is moving all sales of our pure electric models online – with buyers able to purchase through dealerships like Bob Penkhus Volvo (test driving models in store) or ordering directly from their living room. All-electric vehicles, whether purchased in a dealership or at home, will be pre-ordered online to lower the overall cost and to be created with the unique driver in mind. The car will be delivered and demonstrated by Volvo itself through our dealership partners or staff to provide the quality, luxury, and service Volvo will always be known for.

Volvo Electric Vehicles

Volvo's incredible lineup of pure electric and plug-in hybrid models are the result of forty years of extensive research and innovation toward vehicle electrification. Volvo is leading the way in a climate-neutral future for all car manufacturers through a line-up of premium electric vehicles including the Crossover C40, XC90 Recharge, XC60 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid, XC40 Recharge Pure Electric, V60 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid, S90 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid, and the S60 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid.

Improving Battery Technology for All-Electric Volvo Vehicles

With a goal to be fully electric by 2030, Volvo is building our strategy for improving battery technology, driving range, efficiency, and charging time for drivers. Volvo continues to invest in new technology that will deliver new experiences for our drivers in a personal, sustainable, and safe way.
