Winterizing Your Vehicle: Here's What You Need to Know

There are many things you can do to winterize your Volvo in or around Fort Carson; these tips will get you well on your way to ensuring your vehicle is well-prepared for whatever weather this winter brings.

Change Your Oil

Changing your oil is a good thing to do regularly every season. But this winter, you should strongly consider using a winter-friendly engine oil (read: a thinner engine oil that's less viscous). So bring your Volvo to us for an oil change, and we'll make sure it's well taken care-of just in time for winter weather.

Check Your Antifreeze and Freon

Your Volvo's cooling system helps it maintain a kind of automotive homeostasis during every season, preventing it from overheating or freezing on-the-road in Larkspur. And your car's cooling system relies heavily upon coolant (aka antifreeze) to make this happen. So check your antifreeze levels to be sure you're in good shape this winter. Check your freon, too, so you can use your A/C along with your defroster to keep your window from fogging up when precipitation occurs and winter humidity rolls in.

Check Your Battery

Your Volvo's battery experiences extra strain during extreme temps - winter weather included. Check your battery to make sure it's holding a charge and is in good shape this winter. If not - then it's time for a new battery.

Check Your Brakes and Tires

The brakes on your Volvo are essential to helping you stop safely. The tires help you maintain traction over wet, snowy, or slushy roads in Monument. Make sure both are in good condition this winter, and replace them if they're not. Also - we highly suggest upgrading to a dedicated set of winter tires for optimal traction over snowy, slushy, and icy roads.

Check Your Wiper Blades

Your car's wiper blades help you see clearly when it's raining or snowing. As such, they're very important to the safety of you and your passengers as you travel from Woodland Park to Colorado Springs and back this winter. Make sure your wipers are not too worn out and work well - optimally before winter hits.

Pack a Winter Emergency Kit

Sand bags. Jumper cables or a battery tender. Bandages. Blankets. Nonperishable snacks or meal replacement bars. These are just some of the items you want to pack when you prepare a roadside emergency/first aid kit that you'll keep in your vehicle this winter.
